AUGUST 2106 HARD TO KEEP UP !-
So much is happening. News this month. Work has started on the building, We are well on with our work on our Heritage Lottery Fund application . This involves thinking about the design and content of the centre and planning how we will manage the items and images that are donated. We are also working out how we deliver sessions and resources to help schools with their local studies.
We are planning our next event.. a fundraising dinner at the Lymm Hotel on October 7th. Fundraising has gone well but we need to do more to win support from individuals too so we are launching a new donate/join campaign which has just gone on the website.
June 2016 1,000 FOLLOWERS MILESTONE
Yesterday we passed 1,000 followers on facebook; further proof of the interest both in Lymm’s rich heritage and in our project. June 2016 FUNDRAISING - PLEASE BECOME A FRIEND
We have made a good start with fund-raising as you can see from our supporters page but also importantly we met with the Heritage Lottery fund two weeks ago as a follow-up to our initial pre-application enquiry. That went well though obviously it is early days with them. We are likely to be seeking £80-100K to equip the interior of the centre as well as launching a couple of activity based projects involving education and conservation.
We need a regular flow of funds from friends too. Just £24 per annum from a couple or £12 from an individual can help fund our education programmes and other activities. You can sign up here. Please do.
May 2016 NEXT EVENT - WE LOVE OUR CANAL
Following on from the success of Brazilymm 66 earlier in the year plans are now in place for our next important activity – “We Love Our Canal” a four day education programme that teaches Key Stage 2 children about the role of canals over the past 250 years – especially in Lymm. Over 200 children from five schools plus a local Autism Centre will benefit. We will also be on the main event field at Transport Day on June 26th
April 2106 BUILDING PROGRESS
On the building itself – the former Royal British Legion (aka Boat Stage ) on Legh St next door to Saddlers - all necessary permissions have now been granted by Warrington Borough Council and the contract for the work to transform the building with a new pitched roof and glass front is out to tender.
IT'S ALL ABOUT PEOPLE
We have a management team of twelve in place now though as we get closer to opening – hopefully before the end of the year – we will need to grow that team significantly with volunteers who, among other things, would like to be trained to man the centre.
