Lymm Hall, once the home of the village’s founding family, is now the offices of Ecospheric - one of the UK’s leadingsustainability consultancies. This Grade II* listed building, which houses a number of ancient scheduled monuments, is being carefully retrofitted to serve as a real life case study to find solutions for sensitive low energy retrofit: for airtightness, stone repair, glazing, heating, ventilation, energy generation. What is learnt here can potentially be applied to other historic and listed buildings. The project brings together experts in heritage and the built environment to ensure this Elizabethan-era manor house, and other historic buildings, will play an important role in meeting the UK’s targets for a sustainable and zero carbon future.

The tour starts at Lymm Heritage Centre with an illustrated talk about the history of the hall. followed by a short walkthrough the village (1/4 mile) to a site visit at the Hall led by Ecospheric’s director and principal sustainabilityconsultant, Kit Knowles who will describe and illustrate the retrofit project.

Visitors will also be able to see work on the project to restore Edward Kemp's original garden design.

Finally they will learn about the Paddock development on the site (design and build of 5 new build PassivhausPremium certified properties which will generate 3 times more energy than consumed).

Visit duration approx 1h 45m to 2h
