PETER COLLINS

Lymm's Sporting Legend

On the 50th anniversary  of his triumph in the 1976 world championship in Katowice in front of an incredible crowd of 120,000 we bring you the full story of Peter's amazing life and career, from the time as an eight year old that he decided to prove his school teacher wrong by one day becoming  a world champion.

See the bike, the leathers, the boots that won the title, read the stories, see just a few of the 900 trophies plus many other items of memorabilia from Peter's own collection never before displayed in public.   There's even a chance for kids to sit on one of Peter's bikes for a photo op.  Peter will be putting in occasional personal appearances too and signing copies of his autobiography "Keeping It On The Tyres".

The exhibition opens on August 29th. The Centre is open 12-4 Thursday to Sunday until at least the end of November, don't miss this unique expo.

Speedway was one of Britain's biggest sports in the 1970s — a true golden age. Tens of thousands of fans packed stadiums across the country to witness the thunder of the bikes with the distinctive smell of Castrol R, and the heart-stopping action on the track.
No rider shone brighter than Peter Collins, affec-tionately known to his legion of fans as "PC". His image regularly filled the tabloids, while his fear-less, all-action riding style won him a devoted following. Always loyal to his team, Manchester's Belle Vue, Collins rose from local hero to national icon and ultimately a world-renowned champion.
His defining moment came in 1976 when he stormed to victory in the World Championship in Poland before an incredible crowd of 120,000+ spectators. More world honours followed at both pairs and team level, cementing his place as one of speedway's all-time greats. Yet his career was also marked by drama, determination and remarkable comebacks from devastating injuries
